64. Vote for Obama in November.

Today, I met the first of my goals. I voted for Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the 2008 Presidential election. And they won. I have an incredible feeling of hope for America right now. It's not going to be easy, but I'm thrilled that he is the leader who is taking us through it all.

All my goal entailed was to vote for the guy. The winning is just a HUGE perk.

First off, I realize I'm ripping this off of the lovely Miss Allison. In this situation though, it is simply imitation as the sincerest form of flattery. What an incredible idea! I picked slightly different numbers though for a variety of reasons. First, I wanted the number to be significant. 2008 was a big year for me, so why not commemorate it? Also, one section of 50 goals pertain just to traveling in the United States, so I needed to compensate for that. It's about 5 and half years, so I'm putting the end date at January, 2014. Some of these goals are little...some are huge. Whatever the size, I will attempt to document each one as best I can.

Best. Week. Ever!

This week has been the best week ever...and it's only getting better.

Friday, Last: Went out with some fun people from school and had my first really good barhopping experience. Not to say that the others were bad, just sorta lame.

Saturday, Last: Amy's grad party, which was sweet. Strawberry daquiris, tubing on the Delaware, and fireworks! Amy's family is fantastico and it was good to see some Masque people again.

Sunday: The IHOR and friends Sunday night movie tradition continues. A crew of us went to see "Ratatouille" which was wayyy better than seeing "Evan Almighty" the weekend prior.

Monday: Monday is always great because of Quizzo. It was also the last Day ONE, which was sorta good (the kids were kinda sucking at this point...). I won the medal for having won the most end-of-the-day cheers, tied with Michelle and Michal. Woo. Also, we studied all day for Quizzo, reading the blog, looking up things that might come up, and we did really well. The first round was meh, but in the 2nd round, we thought we did well and jokered (for those of you who don't play quizzo at the Dark Horse, that means prior to the scoring portion of the round, you can risk doubling your points...you can only do it once per game.). Well, not only did we do well, but we went 10 for 10, doubling for 20! Also, we knew our Transformers and did well in the speed round because of it (the theme for the 3rd round was: Autobot or Decepticon). I felt especially happy that we did better than the team who comes everyweek called "The Decepticons". We did well in the 4th round, totalling at 32 out of about 43 possible points. My team and I (this week called: The Gryffindors), are studying again for next week, which is the 100th Dark Horse Quizzo. Daniel Radcliffe was also on Leno, making my night.

Tuesday: HARRY POTTER AT MIDNIGHT! It was fantastic. I was in awe. Also, I got to see it with some of my favorite people from all aspects of my life. Panda (also known as one A. Smith) came with me and my la salle people to what was easily the craziest movie going experience ever.

Wednesday: After work, it rained. I got soaked. I changed into warm jammies (yay!) and watched TV until 6, whence it was time for another installment of "Nachos with Nicole". Most of the RC's stopped by, as well as summer staff. Nicole makes a mean nacho and an even meaner guacamole. I went back to my room to watch Daniel Radcliffe on Conan. Bed as Thursday is...

Thursday: BREAKFAST AT IHOP! I love the rooty-tooty fresh and fruity breakfast, with apples. yum. alot of the RC's and summer staff came to say a final good-bye to Michal, who leaves for Poland today. The ride home was hellish. Scott had to drive around a garbage truck, almost bottoming out. After I was safely at work, I had lunch outside on the union patio for the first time in about a week. It was simply too hot to eat outside for about the entire month of July. I called Aunt Rosemary and my grandparents and my mom. After work it was time for HARRY POTTER 5: PART DEUX. in this episode, Nicole gets very lost on the way to King of Prussia and we could only shop for about 30 minutes. boo. The movie was just as good as the first time and dinner was great (I love steak and mashed potatos). Serena slept over and all was well. Emma Watson was on Conan. Yay!

Tonight I'm going out with lots of people for Sara's 21st birthday (finally!) and Sunday is the Decembrist's concert. Life is good.

crazy busy!

well, faithful readers (again...mom), i have been quite busy, which would explain why i haven't really updated. i can try though. here are the highlights of the last few weeks:

- i went home for the first time since easter for sarah's graduation party. amanda came with me and we had a lot of fun.
- i've been to quizzo a lot and it's possibly my favorite thing in the city, next to the people and rittenhouse square.
- day one has been crazy! i've had 3 student groups, 2 family groups, and i've been "the mouse" (the host who scurries all over campus to make things run smoothly). i had 1 good group, 1 awful group, and 1 fantastic group. i've met some great kids and i've gotten really close with the summer staff, which is always good.
- last night, we went out for davey's 21st birthday. we went to dolce for dinner, where i managed to spend only $20 total (including tax and tip and whatnot). we went to sassafrass on 2nd street for a while, but then gwen and i left with mikey to go to tavern, which is a gay piano bar in the gay-berhood (which very openly exists in philly. the street signs are marked quite clearly). i didn't think i would sing, but the pianist asked if i sang 'wicked' and i answered 'yes' and he played popular. mike, gwen, and i have fans. :) i had such a good time.

that's really it. i'm working a lot this weekend and i have a lot coming up socially. summers in philly are really what they're cracked up to be.

Everybody's Working for the Weekend...

...or whenever Carolyn says we are done for the week.

This week, I find out, is a four and a half day week, with a half day on Friday for Memorial Day. Of course, we also have off on the customary Monday as well. We Day ONE hosts took full advantage of this, mind you. We had folder stuffing on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, because apparently, it took last years hosts four days to stuff 1600 folders. However, our group is quite organized and efficent, so it only took us a little less than two days. A proper assembly line helped us reach our goal and Carolyn told us that if we did finish early, we could take Thursday off. I could have worked in the office, but Michal is going to be there, and although that is fun, there will be nothing for me to do and today is supposed to be B-E-A-utiful. George, Cait, and whoever else are going to Rittenhouse Square (again!) for a day in the park. I also have duty tonight, but that's in Basils so I'm not worried.

Tomorrow is pay day. Yay!

Run down of the week so far:

Saturday: I had duty in Katherines and I got no sleep.

Sunday: I got up and worked on the Masque Tree...all day.

Monday: Parent folder stuffing until 2:45, I had to give a transfer tour at 2:00, and I got to be home in time to watch Ellen and see the Harry Potter clip. I colored in the Masque tree. At 7:30, Amy showed up to drop her stuff off before Jess picked us up for Quizzo for Amy's b-day. We came in third, which is really just the first set of people who don't win anything. We stayed at the Dark Horse for a while (that place really clears out after Quizzo ends) and Amy and I had our sleepover, which basically consisted of chatting and watching The Empire Strikes Back.

Tuesday: Community Development office day. Michal was supposed to come in with me, but at the last minute, he had to go and get interviewed for a documentary about this program he is involved in and it took forever. It's ok though because the people who work in CD are hilarious and they keep me very amused (and busy) all day. It is quite an improvement over working at Continuing Studies. Also, from my time at Continuing Studies, I have learned how to amuse myself because I never worked with other student workers. I came home and watched Return of the Jedi and napped. I have become re-obsessed with Star Wars since my parents brought them to me at school. Michal made me and the RC Nicole dinner, which was delicious. He made stuffed mushrooms for Nicole, and Nachos. The Nachos were amazing and very simple and I'll probably make them myself soon. I also tried guacomole for the first time and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It was homemade by Nicole in the Magic Bullet, so perhaps I'll try my hand at it when I get home.

Wednesday: Student folder stuffing day. We worked very dilegently until 11:00, when Alan (one of our bosses) came to pick us up and take us to be the student representatives at the West Campus opening ceremonies. It was pretty neat and there was AMAZING food there afterward. Sandwiches, and lots of little finger foods, such as mozzerella balls, bread with cream cheese and pesto, shrimp, and fruit. We returned to...lunch hour! After that, we put our rears in gear and finished the folders by 3:15. I didn't really feel well when I came back, so I took a nap, felt better and went to Amanda's to hang out. When Cait got back from her sister's concert thing, we hung out too. Cait and I also started our quote board, which is sweet.

Well...that's it for right now. I'm done with the Masque tree for a while, thank goodness. I'm obsessed with Star Wars (there's even a wiki just about Star Wars...its a little creepy, but I still check it out). Nothing else new to report.

Duuuuuty!

Hello faithful readers (or as I like to call you: "Mom")

Well, the days since Tuesday have been fairly exciting.

Wednesday: 80 billion degrees, slighty breezy.
Wednesday was the day that the Day ONE hosts taped our awesome welcome video. We started at La Salle, then...to the van! Our first stop was the mural at 20th and Conclin that La Salle helped with through its mural class this past semester. It's really nice looking. Scott did his presentation and we were off to the city! Michelle did her spot at Boathouse Row, as she is on crew, and to be frank, if I had a reason to be there, I'd be there all the time. It's really nice and neato down there. Next was Michal's segment at the Art Museum, but there was scaffolding all over the front of the building, so he did his at the new Rocky statue in front of the museum. Matt (our trusty cameraman), taped us all running up the stairs, although half way up, Cait, Serena and I decided that there was no reason to go the whole way up. We tried to be funny all day, but I have a feeling that the freshman won't find us terribly funny. We crack ourselves up though. Next, Cory had his moment at Love Park, which is another place in Philly I had never been before. The fountain wasn't on yet, although as we discovered very suddenly at 10:30, it came on in full force at 10:30 am, scaring the beejeezus out of most of us, and making Cory irate, since he had just finished his tape. Cait did her presentation at the Kimmel Center and the Avenue of the Arts, and George and I danced in the background, which was fun for me. Serena did hers in front of the shops on Chestnut Street. As we were pulling up to Arch Street to tape my segment (at the Betsy Ross House), we hit a car, taking off its one light and part of the mirror. I went and taped my segment, where there was tons of kids, and you really couldn't see the fountain, which is my favorite part, but Matt made sure it still looked cool. Sarah did her segment at the end of the street at City Tavern, where she actually got one of the period-dressed waiters to stand with her. It was hilarious. Finally, we ended the day at Pat's Steaks (again!) where I ordered for myself, and George did his segment (and ate 2 cheesesteaks in the time it took me to eat my one). We also drove to South Philly to Tony Lukes, sort of as a reward for finishing taping early. We also taped some filler material at the stadiums with the van. We couldn't tape inside, but we taped us in the parking lot pointing at all the different sports centers.

I was exhausted, but I had duty at 6, so I couldn't go to sleep. I hung out with Cait for a while, then trooped through campus rounds and set up shop in Cassian Hall. I watched "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason" and "Music and Lyrics", which made the time between rounds go quickly.

Thursday, I sold my soul to La Salle. I worked from 9 to 4 at Community Development, then I was on duty again at 6, but this time in Basil. Campus Rounds took a long time, but once I got back, duty was fun. Cait, Michal and I watched Grey's (and the "Davey Sullivan moves his crap to his new room down the hall" parade), then did rounds with our capes (and Scott). Finally, I ended the night with Michal covering for me so I could go to Wawa at midnight. I hadn't been out all day. I got a sandwich, because I hadn't really had a proper dinner, since campus rounds took 2 hours, so it was good. I also got some drinks to have in my room for the weekend.

Pay day is next Friday, and as I just found out, we get paid for a lot more than I thought. The only thing I don't get paid for is RA stuff, as that's what gets me my free housing. Training, office hours, and Day ONE stuff gets me paid AND I worked 15 and half hours on Sunday for Angie. Its exciting. Also, Miss Michele Muller might be coming over tonight, so I'm pretty much excited to get this day started.
